Jonathan Bate, Professor of Shakespeare and Renaissance Literature at the University of Warwick, will give this year’s Shakespeare’s Birthday Lecture at the Folger Shakespeare Library. Titled “The Good Life in Shakespeare,” Professor Bate’s lecture will discuss the Epicurean tradition in As You Like It, The Winter’s Tale, and Measure for Measure.

The lecture will take place Monday, April 26, 2010, at 8:00 pm in the Elizabethan Theatre. This event is free and open to the public.

Professor Bate is author of Soul of the Age: The Life, Mind and World of William Shakespeare (2008) and editor of the Arden edition Titus Andronicus (1995) among other impressive works.

Brett Gann is Managing Editor of The Shakespeare Standard. He holds the Master of Fine Arts in Shakespeare and Renaissance Literature in Performance with a special emphasis on directing from Mary Baldwin College in partnership with the American Shakespeare Center of Staunton, Virginia. He earned a Master of Letters at Mary Baldwin and a Bachelor of Arts in theater at Wabash College, Crawfordsville, Indiana. Brett is a resident of Madison, Wisconsin.
