The Boston-based Actor’s Shakespeare Project is planning a full day of Shakespeare’s Birthday activities for April 17, including a parade, free performances, and a fundraising gala.
The day begins with a parade into Harvard Square at noon. There will then be various activities in Harvard Square, including a Shakespeare Slam, 75 minutes of nonstop performances of speeches, scenes, and songs from Shakespeare, at 3:00 PM. There will also be a fundraising gala for ASP starting at 6:00 at the Villa Victoria Center for the Arts. See here for more information.

I am a PhD student in English Literature at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. My research interests include the role of race in Shakespearean performance and Shakespeare in popular culture. I completed his B.A and M.A. at Arizona State University. My Master’s thesis, “Uncontrollable Othellos: Appropriations in Film and Television,” explored how popular culture appropriations of Othello reflect racial anxiety about the role.
My first publication, “Othello, Race, and Cultural Memory on Cheers,” is forthcoming in the Spring 2010 issue of Popular Culture Review.
