This week we discuss the 2013 Globe to Globe productions at Shakespeare’s Globe.
Last year, This year, four visiting foreign-language productions will visit London for Globe to Globe 2013. Venus and Adonis recently ended (April 29th-May 4th). The Isango Ensemble from Cape Town, South Africa performed Shakespeare’s epyllion as a full-perforamance in several languages: English, IsiZulu, IsiXhosa, SeSotho, Setswana, and Afrikaans.
There are three other Globe to Globe productions to look forward to this season. The Marjanishvili Theatre of Tbilisi, Georgia will cover Shakespeare’s As You Like It from May 6-11. The Footsbarn of Allier, France will present Indian Tempest in English, Malayalam, French, and Sanskrit July 29 to August 3. And “although the last, not least” (as Lear states about his own Cordelia), from September 23-28, Belarus Free Theatre from Minsk, Belarus will portray King Lear .
