As I moved through The Winter’s Tale, I noticed something.

And it got me thinking…

  • Leontes: believes his been cuckolded
  • Posthumus Leonatus (Cymbeline): believes his been cuckolded
  • Leonato (Much Ado About Nothing): jokes about being cuckolded

Coincidence or something more? Do all the Leo’s have this issue?

Alas, no. There are two other Leo— characters in the Canon, both servants–from The Merchant of Venice and Pericles–who are free from those distaff doubts.
