Maria Portia Olenka C. Placino or Portia is a graduate student of the University of the Philippines under the Art Theory and Criticism Program of the Art Studies Department. She graduated cum laude under the same Department for the Interdisciplinary Program concentrating on Comparative Literature and Anthropology. She has always been a lover of Shakespearean literature as soon as she understood that she is named after a character in The Merchant of Venice.

A woman of varied interests, Portia is also a licensed criminologist, a photographer of everyday life, a theatre goer, a writer, and a blogger. She has taught in various colleges and state universities and is currently a Lecturer for Art History at St. Scholastica’s College in Manila. She continues to engage people in various artistic discourses, including Shakespeare. She hosts a personal blog Portia Olenka, so she can enrich her teaching and conversations about art.
