Her infinite variety.”

Of the ranged empire fall: here is my space.”
Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton were perhaps the most famous actors to play this couple but productions of Antony and Cleopatra over the years have included many famous actors playing the title roles: Michael Redgrave and Peggy Ashcroft in 1953; Robert Ryan and Katherine Hepburn in 1960; Richard Johnson and Janet Suzman in 1972; Alan Howard and Glenda Jackson in 1978; Michael Gambon and Helen Mirren in 1982; and Patrick Stewart and Harriet Walter in 2006.
Antony & Cleopatra is one of Shakespeare’s great historical love stories. Antony is captivated by Cleopatra, Queen of Egypt. Following Caesar’s assassination, Mark Antony has reached the heights of power, but gossip and scandal lead to plots of murder and battles. He neglects his empire for a life of decadent seduction with his mistress, Cleopatra. Torn between love and duty, Antony’s military brilliance deserts him, and his passion leads the lovers to their tragic end.

You’re invited! All ages welcome. Free. We recast after every scene so all who want to get a chance to read. All casting is non-gender specific so women can read men’s roles and vice-versa. If you’d like to just listen that’s OK too. Please bring a copy of the play if possible. We MAY have a couple of extra copies. The benefit to you when you read Shakespeare out loud is that you sharpen your cold reading skills whether you’re an actor or someone who just enjoys speaking and hearing the wonderful poetry and graceful language. It doesn’t hurt your street cred either.
You will meet others who share your interest in Shakespeare and theater. We look forward to seeing you here!
