We start off the year in Jan/Feb with “King Lear” as our two-part monthly reading schedule kicks off with the big one!
The King of England is nearing the end of his reign. He hobbles to his desk where he announces he is to devolve the power of his kingdom, dividing the land and dishing it out to his three daughters, once they proclaim their love for him. But when King Lear’s plans are impeded by the greed of others, he slowly descends into a deep, all-encompassing madness as his country teeters on the edge.
Acclaimed director Thomas Haine guides this reading. Other readings to follow include Antony and Cleopatra, Othello, The Taming of the Shrew, The Comedy of Errors, and The Winter’s Tale.
The benefit to you when you read Shakespeare out loud is you sharpen your cold reading skills whether you’re an actor or someone who just enjoys speaking and hearing the wonderful poetry and sparkling language.
