It’s that time of year: the conference cfps are coming fast and furious!

Interestingly, there are two cfps currently circulating for conferences on Shakespeare and philosophy. ‘Shakespeare: The Philosopher’ is an event planned at the University of Hertfordshire for 12-13 September 2014. Abstracts are sought for papers on on any aspect of the relationships between Shakespeare and philosophy. The deadline for submission is 16 June 2014. The second planned conference, entitled ‘”Hast any philosophy in thee?”: Subjecting Shakespeare to the Risks of Philosophy’, is set for much further in the future: it will be held at Université de Poitiers, France from 17-18 March 2016, and abstracts are not due until 15 June 2015. More details about both of these conferences can be found here and here.

This event will be held in Montpellier, France  on 17 October 2014. Submissions should be sent by 31 May 2014 . Find the full call here.

The Southeastern Renaissance Conference invites submissions for its annual conference, which will be held on 3-4 October 2014 at the University of North Carolina-Greensboro. Papers can be on any aspect of Renaissance literature, art, or culture. Full essays are requested by 1 June 2014. Submission of your work to the conference is also an automatic submission to Renaissance Papers, the journal of the conference. Even those articles not accepted for delivery at the meeting will be considered for publication in the journal. More details are available  here.

I’m sure everyone has heard that the annual meeting of the Renaissance Society of America will be held in Berlin, Germany next year from 26-28 March 2015. Submissions are welcomed no later than 10 June 2014 for individual papers or panels on any aspect of Renaissance studies.  In addition, there’s a blog of cpfs for themed sessions (with earlier deadlines) here. Of particular interest includes proposed panels on the following topics:Objects of Femininity on the Early Modern English Stage’ due 1 June; ‘What Was Elizabethan Satire?‘ due 6 June; Damnation and the Damned 1300 – 1700′ due 31 May; ‘Curious Objects on the Early Modern Stage’ due 26 May; ‘“Scriptile” Objects and the Making of Metaphors‘ due 26 May; ‘The Principe on Stage: Machiavelli in Renaissance Tragedy’ due 31 May; ‘Renaissance Feasts and Festivals’ due 1 June; ‘Shakespearean Romance’ due 23 May;Shakespeare’s Bible’ due 1 June;Shakespeare and Classical Authors‘ due 5 June; ‘The Medieval in the English Renaissance’ due 20 May; ‘In Praise of the Small: Miniatures, Sonnets, and Aphorisms in Renaissance Culture’ due 5 June; and ‘Music in Theory and Practice on the Early Modern English Stage’ due 26 May.

The next meeting of the Pacific Northwest Renaissance Conference will take place on 22-24 October 2014 in Kelowna, British Columbia. The theme of this year’s conference is ‘The Global Renaissance’, broadly interpreted. Papers on exploration narratives, geographical knowledge and contact, and influence between cultures and languages are particularly welcomed. The Midwest Modern Language Association  will hold its annual conference in Detroit, Michigan from 13-16 November 2014. The Program Committee announces an extended deadline of 15 May 2014 for special session proposals for the conference. The Committee particularly welcomes CFPs for sessions that address the 2014 theme, ‘The Lives of Cities’. The deadline for all individual paper proposals, as well as for proposals for complete panels that are not directly tied to the conference theme, is also 15 May 2014. The Pacific Ancient and Modern Language Association’s conference is scheduled to be held in Riverside, California from 31 October to 2 November 2014. 15 May 2014 is the deadline to submit a proposal, and you can find a full list of sessions here.

The South Atlantic Modern Language Association will meet in Atlanta, Georgia from 7-9 November 2014. Panels are being formed on topics including ‘Comparing Ecologies: Humanism, Globalization, and Early Modern Networks of Sustainability’ and ‘Natural Spaces and Phenomena in Early Modern Literature’ . Deadlines vary (though most are rapidly approaching), and you can read the full list of cfps here.

A conference entitled ‘Travel and the Country House:  Places, Cultures and Practices’ will be  held at the University of Northampton from 15-16 September 2014. 19 May 2014 is the deadline for proposals, and more details can be found here.

22 May 2014 is the  deadline to submit a proposal for ‘Faith, Politics, and the Arts: Early Modern Transfers between Catholic and Protestant Cultures’, an interdisciplinary conference scheduled to take place at Philipps-Universität in Marburg, Germany from 9-11 March 2015. Albeit is a new internet literary journal focusing on the intersection between traditional scholarship and teaching documents. Each issue features articles, lesson plans, book reviews, and a syllabus. At present, scholarly articles, detailed lesson plans, book reviews, creative pieces, and nonfiction essays exploring the theme of ‘failure in literature and art’ are being sought for issue 1.2. More information can be found here.

Graduates of British or Irish universities who have been awarded PhDs in the last five years are invited to apply for the Society for Renaissance Studies’ Postdoctoral Fellowships, which support research in all aspects of Renaissance Studies. There is one award open for the academic year 2014-15. 31 May 2014 is the application deadline, and more information can be found here.

The University of Queensland, Australia is advertising a postdoctoral position. The successful appointee will develop a research project within the ‘Meanings’ Program of the ARC Centre of Excellence for the History of Emotions, Europe 1100-1800, broadly related to any aspect of the history of emotions in any field of English literature from the twelfth through to the eighteenth centuries.  More information is available here, and the application deadline is 11 June 2014.
