The Arts and Letters Club of Toronto will host “Shakespeare Challenge 2015” as part of a fundraising gala for Shakespeare in Action.
On March 25, twelve members of the local community, who have volunteered one night a week of their time, will mount an abridged production of The Comedy of Errors. The eclectic cast and crew – hailing from various walks of life – have had approximately twenty-four total hours to rehearse.
From the Shakespeare in Action website:
For the past three years, community members from the corporate sector fearlessly took to the stage in productions of William Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream, The Tempest, and Twelfth Night to raise funds for Shakespeare In Action’s educational programming. Their generosity has helped to foster literacy, enhance creativity and promote speech arts for youth at risk in Toronto’s priority neighborhoods.
After the performance, guests will have the opportunity to enjoy live music and participate in a silent auction. All of the proceeds will go toward Shakespeare in Action’s education programs which provide students access to professional theater productions. The company also offers a library club, a kids summer camp, and a young performance company for teens.
You can purchase tickets directly from Shakespeare in Action.
