By Bill Walthall

OK, I’m a fan of The Clash. The only band that matters. One of the few regrets in my life is that I never got to see them live. One of their great songs is “Clampdown.”

And the first words that Joe Strummer sings in the song are: “What are we gonna do now?”

And that’s where I am today.

The Tempest has blown over. The Project, as originally envisioned, is finished.

So what now?

I could start again from the top, hit them in a more genre-centric approach (rather than the pseudo-chronological I attempted this time).

I could read the plays not part of the “official” Canon–the ones for which he was a collaborator or contributor rather than main playwright. Those would include:

  • Edward III
  • Arden of Faversham
  • Sir Thomas More
  • Henry VIII
  • The Spanish Tragedy
  • The Two Noble Kinsmen
  • The Tragedie of Sejanus
  • Cardenio

Or I could hit the Sonnets.

Or I could try the narrative poems:

  • Venus and Adonis
  • The Rape of Lucrece
  • The Passionate Pilgrim
  • A Lover’s Complaint

I could just take a break, focus on finishing the Masters and that Westworld presentation for the Popular Culture Association conference.

I figure I’m going to make my decision in the next week or so, and kick off whatever the future may bring on the first of February…
